LuSinda Jane Bond Jones, "Grandma," "Sindy," was the fifth child of James Monroe Bond and Margaret Louise Jump Bond. She was most likely born in Polk County, Missouri on her Father's farm.

She was the Sister to Nancy E. Bond Martin, James M., Mary M., Arminta Ann Bond Fisher, and John M. Bond.

The family lived in Hickory then Polk County, Missouri for the most part. It looks like a county line moved because they were in Green Township, Hickory County on June 15, 1880 and in Green Township, Polk County June 8, 1900. And when LuSinda's father passed away he was still in Green Township, Polk County. LuSinda's older sister Arminta Ann married Hence Fisher, and when Arminta's son, Ancil was eight months old Arminta died. LuSinda made a deathbed promise to care for the boy and Hence agreed to this arrangement. LuSinda started seeing the young man on the Jones farm next over in January of 1900 and they agreed to marry. As they were making plans his Mother died and the wedding was put off.

Finally on August 29th, Miss LuSinda married "J.T.", and he agreed to take on her deceased Sisters son, Harmon Ancil Fisher to help raise too.

This was a major six months of events and it was time for things to settle for them all. They started farming there in Green Township, "Ingalls," and along came a daughter, Nellie Mae, who was the first of six children.

J.T. and LuSinda had the following children:
Nellie Mae Jones Stevenson, James Curtis Jones, William "Odus" Jones, Vonnie Lee Jones, Opal Marie Jones McAlister and Dortha Hellen Jones.

Before Curtis was born in September 1904 the family moved over to Bolivar. On August 18, 1909 LuSinda gave birth to Vonnie Lee, a daughter, and the child then died Christmas day, just 4 months old. This was a turning point, because the family decided to move back to Green Township by 1912. The next time an event happens it is the birth of Dortha Hellen on March 14,1919 and they are now in Scottsdale, Maricopa County, Arizona. J.T. and LuSinda had decided to move here just before her birth. They had a nice farm in Scottsdale and were raising Alfalfa crops. About May first 1919 the family contracted Spanish Influenza and on May 8, 1919 they lost little Dortha at one month and 24 days, to this illness, this was to be their last child. On January 10, 1920 they had a nice farm going and were doing OK now, LuSinda was 42 years old. Her oldest Nellie was getting married to a local dairy farmer, Floyd Stevenson and her son Curtis was 15 and taking to farming. Things again were changing. Curtis saw his sister and her husband were going to do the farming so he decided he wanted to be a Barber, and by November 21, 1926 he was Barbering and marring Leta Hamby. On our next glimpse of J.T. and LuSinda on April 29, 1930, they are living on the farm next to their daughter Nellie Stevenson. Curtis is living in Town on Main Street with his wife Leta, Odus is over in Christy with his new wife Wilma and their youngest Opal is living as a Lodger with Mrs. Steinwick and her family a few farms over. They now have 2 grandchildren and LuSinda is able to sew her quilts when she wants to. She no longer has all the pressures of raising children, she can now just enjoy running her home, sewing, and visiting with her grand babies.

On July 18, 1931, LuSinda lost her husband, J.T., he had been out plowing a field on their farm all day. When he finally came into the house he was over heated. He asked for and was given a glass of ice tea, as he gulped down the tea the cold was to much of a shock and he had a massive heart attack. The doctor was sent for but when he arrived it was to late. In shock LuSinda buried her husband of 30 years, two days later.

Grandma was a very special woman, she loved to be with her family. Her hobbies were sewing, making quilts, stitching and Grand Babies. She came to visit when I was born and there is a picture of our four generations here to see, this would have been 1962. She made one of her last quilts for my sister in 1963. Her eye sight was getting bad and she had bad headaches more and more when she sewed. She passed away with many of her family around her at age 89. She was loved deeply and is still greatly missed.
