He was born in Hamburg, Iowa to Friedman T. and Nellie R. Isaac Barnes. He married Mary K. Stubbs October 9, 1982.
A graduate of Bonaparte High School, he worked for International Harvester and 37 years for John Deere Ottumwa Works, retiring October 31, 1983. He was a member of UAW Local #74. He enjoyed working with steel, raising cattle, building fence, going to the sale barn and helping his neighbors.
Surviving is his wife, Mary; a brother, Donald Barnes of Camanche; a sister, Wava Bain of Ottumwa, Gertrude Bain of Pinellas Park, Florida and Daisy Logan of Clinton and nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Fred, Ronald, Keith and Danny Barnes; and two sisters, Betty Luna and Carol Hull.
Funeral services were held at the Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Dale Gray officiating.
