According to interviews with Mary Allen's great-granddaughter Mary Deane Allen Shugart, Mary Brock Allen traveled to McLean County, Kentucky with her pregnant, unwed daughter Virginia Allen. When the child was born, the boy was named Charlie Allen. Mary's husband Adam Allen and two sons, James and Lemuel, traveled from White Pine, Tennessee to McLean County, Kentucky. They brought Charlie back to White Pine, where he lived with family until his death. Strangely enough, they did not bring Mary back also. Mary Deane Allen Shugart said she was always told Mary Brock Allen died of a broken heart about two weeks after Charlie was born. We believe she is buried in an unmarked grave somewhere in McLean County, Kentucky.
