Arthur F. Pitman, 91, of Fort Dodge, passed away on Friday, April 15, 2016 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge.

Arthur Franklin Pitman was born June 3, 1924 in Dakota City, Iowa to Anthony Fay and Ethel Mary (Giddings) Pitman. He attended Dakota City and Humboldt schools, and after completing his education, he worked for building contractor, Hugh Stone.

On January 30, 1944, he married Shirley M. Holt of Humboldt.

They lived in Spencer and Minneapolis, where he worked for industries supporting our nation’s defense, returning to Dakota City and Humboldt. In 1955, they moved to Fort Dodge, where he began his career in real estate with Joe Brown Realty. In 1959, they moved to Boulder, Colorado, where he joined Telleen-Penfold Realty, and when the family returned to Fort Dodge in 1960, he opened his own firm, Pitman Realty, from which he retired in 1989.

Art enjoyed family vacations in Utah, Colorado, and Minnesota, doing home improvement projects, and tending flower gardens. He was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ.

He is survived by his daughter, Mary Jane Pitman, Fort Dodge; his son, Scott M. Pitman (Donna), North Ogden, Utah; granddaughters, April Hawkins (Jeremy), Sunset, Utah, Katie Pitman, and Autumn Pitman, North Ogden, Utah, grandson, Michael Pitman (Lauren), Fort Bragg, North Carolina; and great-grandchildren, Arianna, Rayse, Stryder, and Rocker; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; sister, Ruth Madsen; brothers, Donovan, Raymond, and Stanley, and a brother who died in infancy.

Services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, April 21, 2016 at First Congregational United Church of Christ with the Rev. Joey Feldmann officiating. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery in Fort Dodge. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Wednesday at the Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Fort Dodge.
