Funeral services for Mrs. Gertie Gray Giles Johnston, age 94, will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, April 17, 2016, at the Plain Dealing Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Teutsch officiating. Interment will follow in Plain Dealing Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Plain Dealing.

Visitation will be held Saturday, April 16, 2016, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Plain Dealing Baptist Church.

Mrs. Johnston was born on June 5, 1921 to Henry and Nicie Allen Giles in Plain Dealing and passed away on Friday, April 15, 2016 in Bossier City, LA. She was a member of Plain Dealing Baptist Church and worked for Bryce Turnley, Plain Dealing Cotton Gin , and as a cafeteria worker at the Plain Dealing Academy. She was very involved in her church where she chaired the soup ministry, taught Sunday School until she was 85 years of age, and was active in WMU. She made countless crosses to giveaway over the years to spread the word of Jesus. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her son, Gary Andrew Johnston of Nauvoo, AL; three daughters, Billie June Lafitte of Keithville, LA, Lois 'Nita" Dorn and husband Mark of Pineville, LA, Melba Olyne Lamar and husband, Fred of Choudrant, LA; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several great great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Johnston was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas Andrew "Buddy" Johnston; daughter, Peggy Sue Spence, brothers, Lawrence Giles, Brazzel Giles; sons-in-law, Clyde Spence and Junior Lafitte; daughter-in-law, Ruth Ann Johnston, sisters-in-law, Ethel Giles and Marie Giles.

Pallbearers will be Paul Spence, David Spence, Michael Johnston, Jason Lamar, Rick Dorn, Vol Lafitte, John LaLena and Jeff Richardson. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
