He was predeceased by his wife, Carol Pope Silk. He was former resident of Newark, Del., and Pompano Beach, Fla.
Born in Norristown, Pa., Tom was a graduate of the University of Delaware where he lettered in baseball and football. Tom was an active member of Theta Chi fraternity, and was appointed regimental commander for the university ROTC. He later served in the Korean War.
Tom retired from IBM management in 1987, having served in the United States and Vienna, Austria. He was a member of the English-Speaking Union, community foundation, Lexington Golf & Country Club, Virginia Antiquities, Rockbridge Civil War Round Table, Stonewall Jackson House volunteer group, Hospice, Rotary Club, and R.E. Lee Memorial Episcopal Church.
He is survived by a son, Stephen Silk and his wife Katherine Emery, of Farmington, Conn., and a daughter, Melissa Whitten, of Eden, N.C.; and two grandchildren, David Russell Silk and Jessica Whitten.
The funeral will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at Stonewall Jackson Cemetery.
