Family-Placed Death Notice

RICHARD L. BURCHETT On Tuesday, November 18, 2008, Richard L. Burchett, 75, of Norcross, slipped out of time into eternity to forever be with the Lord. Born on December 7, 1932 in Radford, VA, he graduated from Pulaski High School, Pulaski, VA, where he excelled in sports. Following graduation, he played semi-pro baseball and later coached Little League baseball and football.

In 1956 he began a life-long career in the outdoor power equipment industry, working with Homelite, Wheelhorse, Stihl, Husqvarna, and, at the time of his death, with Lanier Outdoor Equipment, in Buford, GA. Known as a "legend in the power equipment business", he was respected and admired as a consummate professional who freely shared his knowledge with peers and customers. He was a trainer and mentor to countless salesmen and owners of small businesses. He loved his work, but particularly the people he worked with and for. Known for his sterling integrity and tireless work ethic, he loved his God and shared that love with everyone around him.

He was a devoted church member and leader, teaching Sunday School, mentoring young men, and singing in the choir. He was always quick to help wherever needed, generous to a fault and a great encourager. He brought humor and fun to every situation. He never met a stranger and made everyone, young and old, comfortable in his presence. He especially loved children and they loved him. Devoted to his family, he cheered their triumphs and supported them in their heartaches. Deeply loved by his family and friends, he will be missed by everyone who knew him. He has left a void that cannot be filled.

Preceded in death by his father, John M. Burchett, and his son-in-law, E. Dean Moore, he is survived by his wife of 56 years, Betty Whittington Burchett, of Norcross, daughters, Debbie Moore of Alpharetta, GA and Rhonda and Paul Ellis, of Braselton, GA, son, Terry Burchett of Norcross, grandchildren, Bethany Ellis of Braselton, GA and J. P. Ellis, of Athens, GA, mother, Virginia G. Burchett, of Pulaski, VA, brothers, Ronnie and Barbara Burchett, of Pulaski, VA and Ralph Burchett, also of Pulaski, four nephews and a niece.
