George J. O'Neal, 94, of Crown Hill, passed away April 12, 2016 at home.

George was a retired coal miner and a member of the UMWA. He was a World War II Army veteran, having fought in the Ardennes counteroffensive, more commonly known as the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of American Legion Post 20, Charleston, and a member of Crown Hill Freewill Baptist Church. George enjoyed woodworking, singing in the church choir and singing at the nursing home.

Preceded in death by his parents, James Curtis and Isabel Bass O'Neal; wife, Betty Alice Copley O'Neal; and infant son, Larry.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 11 years, Billie Jean O'Neal at home; children, Johnny O'Neal (Shirley) of Telford, Pa., Michael Dale O'Neal of Walton, Deborah Jean Tognazzini of Portland, Ore., Cathy O'Neal Harper (Roger "Skip") of Bumpass, Va., Vera O'Neal Walters of Chelyan and Veda O'Neal Carroll (Roy) of Pratt; stepchildren, Randy Coleman (Ruthann Walsh) of Nashville, Tenn., Danny Coleman of Florida, David Coleman (Pam) of Newark, Del., and Cynthia Lied (Eddie) of Coatesville, Pa.; sister, Janet Depugh Miller of Montgomery; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his dog, Willy.

Special thanks to caregivers, Angie, Jessica Lively and Terry Kelly.

Service will be 11 a.m. Monday, April 18, at Crown Hill Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Carll Pomeroy and Chaplain Jeff Floyd officiating. Entombment will follow with military honors in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow.

A gathering of family and friends will be 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, April 17, at Pryor Funeral Home, East Bank.
