Alan Fay Glover was born June 24, 1940 in Aberdeen, SD the son of Fay and Viola (Bruns) Glover. He was raised in Frederick, SD. He grew up and attended school in Frederick, graduating from Frederick High School in 1958 where he participated in sports, along with several of his brothers in school at the time. While attending college at the University of South Dakota he was united in marriage to Arlene Emery and they had four children together. Alan received his undergraduate in prelaw and later he received his Law Degree from USD in 1964.
Alan enlisted in the United States Army on June 6, 1963, serving during the Vietnam War. He worked under the JAG Branch as a judge advocate with the rank of Captain. He was honorably discharged August 1, 1967.
After Alan finished law school he served as a law clerk for a U.S. Federal Judge in Phoenix, AZ, and then returned to South Dakota and joined Frank Denholm in a law practice which lasted 30 years. The firm was known as Denholm and Glover, Attorneys and Counselors at Law with the exception of five years (1970-1975) while Frank served in the U.S. Congress when it was known as the Alan F. Glover Law Firm.
On June 11, 1977, Alan was united in marriage to Sandra L. Pike in Brookings, SD. They lived together in the home they built on Lake Campbell. They had two daughters together.
In 1998, Alan joined a Law Practice called Glover, Helsper and Rasmussen PC in Brookings where he continued to practice until recently retiring. Throughout his career as a lawyer, Alan epitomized the country lawyer, doing trial work, corporate law, taxes, wills and trusts, municipal and rural cooperative law.
Alan was an avid fisherman and pool-player and also enjoyed water sports on Lake Campbell and golfing at Brookings Country Club. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends at their home on Lake Campbell.
Alan is survived by his wife, Sandi of Brookings, SD; children, Angie Glover of Anchorage, AK, Hallie (Jesse) Ruden of Harrisburg, SD, Mitchell (Jane) Glover of Grand Rapids, MI, Joel (Erin) Glover of Denver, CO, Laney (Lance) Jenison of Valley City, ND and Mindy (Bryan) Harwood-Glover of Minneapolis, MN; his brothers and sister, Jim Glover, Roy (Nerys) Glover, Fr. Don Glover, Mary Jean Glover and Rob (Mary) Glover; ten grandsons and his first granddaughter to arrive in August and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Michael and one sister-in-law, Jody Glover.
