Walter Rooney BROOTEN - Walter E. Rooney, 83, died Monday at Belgrade Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Donatus Catholic Church. The Rev. Tom Becker will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today at Johnson Funeral Home, Belgrade. Holy Name Society will pray at 8 tonight at the funeral home followed by parish prayers at 9.

Walter Rooney was born July 29, 1904, in Padua to William and Helena Rooney. He married Laura Ahles Oct. 6, 1931, in Rockville and farmed north of Brooten for many years, until retiring and moving to Brooten in 1969. He was a member of the Holy Name Society of Padua and served on the creamery boards of Padua and Brooten. He also served on the Raymond Township Board.

Survivors include daughters and sons, Mrs. Robert (Audrey) French, Clarence, William and Melvin, Brooten; Kenneth, Waite Park; Mrs. Richard (Alice) Peters, Sauk Centre; Mrs. Walter (Jeanette) Schwindel, Richmond; brothers and sisters, Leonard, St. Cloud; Agnes Steinhoff, Montana; Mary, St. Cloud; 37 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, April 3, 1971; seven brothers; on sister; and one grandchild.
