Pneumonia Fatal tp W. Lee Sheppard
W. Lee Sheppard, brother-in-law of J. R. Causey,Sr. of this city, former
Cordele Chief of Police and member of a prominent Crisp County family, died at
Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany Thursday night, August 31, 1t nine
o'clock, succumbing to an attack of pneumonia. Mr. Sheppard suffered a stroke of
paralysis last January from which he never recovered. He was 63 yeard old.
Mr. Sheppard was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George W. Sheppard,
pioneer citizens of this community and was reared in Cordele. He served as chief
of the Cordele police force for several years prior to moving to Albany about 14
years ago. He was city policeman and also county bailiff during his residence at
Albany. He was a member of the Baptist Church.
Mr. Sheppard is survived by his wife, one sister, Mrs. W. T. Perry, Cordele
and the following brothers, J. S.; B. F.; R. S.; Will,; Jake and Jack Sheppard,
all of Cordele. Three cousins, Max Sheppard, Mrs. R. H. Foster and Mrs. W. U.
Curtis, all of Albany, and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral and interment were in Albany Friday afternoon.
