John Dennis III who was born in 1787 in New Jersey was the organizer of a wagon train that left Pennsylvania between 1850 and 1857 headed for Oregon. However, they never made it to Oregon. They settled in Stark County, Illinois, in the community of West Jersey, Illinois. John brought many of his children and their families with him, as well as neighbors from New Jersey. John was married to his second wife at this time, Martha (Adkinson) (Heaton) Dennis, and her Heaton children also went with them. Martha's daughter Euphemia Heaton was married to John Dennis III's son Lewis Dennis. Martha died in 1857 in the new settlement in Illinois, and Euphemia (Heaton) Dennis also died in 1860 in West Jersey, Illinois. They are buried beside each other in the United Methodist Church Cemetery in West Jersey, Illinois, along with Euphemia's baby who died at the same time she did. - By Blytha (Dennis) Ellis, great great granddaughter of John Dennis III, and great grand daughter of Lewis Dennis.
