Mildred Walton McKown, age 93, of Douglasville, passed away Saturday, April 09, 2016. She was born on September 22, 1922, in Douglas County, Georgia, the daughter of the late Sydney Iverson Walton and the late Savannah Odessa Walton. She was a long-time member of Beulah Baptist Church where she served in the Nursery, taught Sunday School and V.B.S. She was an excellent seamstress and cook—being known for her chocolate pies and cakes—but she will be remembered most for her love and devotion to God and family.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, John H. McKown, Sr.; her daughter, Linda McKown Connally; her son, John H. McKown, Jr.; her sister, Bessie Umphrey; her brothers: James Walton, Raymond Walton, and Marion Walton.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law: Judy and Bill Edwards, Dottie and Marion Yancey, all of Douglasville, Cheryl and Keith Chandler of Cullman, Alabama; sons and daughters-in-law: Jim and Melanie McKown, Jerry and Sharon McKown, all of Douglasville, and Craig and Laura McKown of Tulsa, Oklahoma; 22 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Monday, April 11, 2016, at 1:00 P.M. at Beulah Baptist Church with Reverend Talmadge Chandler and Dr. Wayne Bray officiating.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
