A loving wife, mother, grandma and great-grandma, Betty was welcomed home by her Lord and Savior on April 8, 2016. She will be remembered for being a strong and determined woman who touched everyone she knew. A member of Pilgrim United Methodist Church and former member of First UMC Lansing and Carson City UMC, she spent countless hours participating in church activities. Family and friends will remember the thousands of dinners she prepared and the baking she loved so much. Camping, fishing, bowling, playing cards and board games were all part of her life and resulted in lasting friendships. She knew how to live life to its fullest. Betty met the love of her life, Charles Garner, at Nip N Sip in Lansing where she was a waitress and their devotion to each other lasted 65 years. She was the caring Mother of Sharon Moerman (Wayne deceased), Kathy (Jeff) Bush, Charlene Garner, Thomas (Mona) Garner, and Matthew (Rachel) Garner. She was a wonderful sister to Linda Dunlap, Dale (Nancy) Smith and Brenda (Tom) Kyriakou. Her 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren knew they were lucky to have her in their lives, as were her sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Smith and Celia Smith, and brothers, Doyle Smith, Harold Smith and Bill Smith.
The Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, April 12, 2016, 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 3827 Delta River Drive, Lansing, with Rev. Lori Sykes and Rev Andy Croel officiating. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive relatives and friends Monday, 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at Palmer, Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Homes, Delta Chapel. Visitation will continue Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, Lansing or Pilgrim United Methodist Church, St. Johns.
