One Killed, Two Injured

Mrs. Anna Lorraine Smith, Shattuck, and one time resident at 411 South Boone, Elk City, was killed and two passengers seriously injured when the Chevrolet pick-up truck she was driving plunged down an embankment at the Sand Creek bridge, 2 1/2 miles south of Sayre Wednesday evening.

Maynard G. Bringham, 58, route 1, Cheyenne and Mrs. Imogene Sadler, 312 North Fourth, Sayre, were injured in the accident.

The mishap occurred when Mrs. Smith lost control of the vehicle she was driving when she started to make a left turn to get on the new 66 highway to avoid a barricade.

The car was out of control for 121 feet. It was in the air for 30 feet and rolled over 4 times for 54 feet and stopped on its left side.

Mrs. Smith who was thrown 40 feet beyond the vehicle was dead on arrival at the Sayre hospital. She suffered a broken neck and internal injuries.

Maynard Bringham also thrown from the truck suffered a broken pelvis and a punctured lung. He is serius(sic) condition.

Imogene Sadler, 32, was thrown from the vehicle. She walked up to the highway and was picked up by Mrs. Alice who was passing the scene of the accident at the time and brought home. She later went to the local hospital suffering from a broken pelvis and internal injuries. She was in shck(sic) and dazed when picked up. Me. Hill stayed at the scene of the accident until the ambulance came to pickup the victims of the accident.

Mrs. Smith was the mother of five children.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lorraine Smith, Shattuck, a former resident of Sayre, who was killed in a car wreck two miles west of Sayre on Highway 66 will be held at the Sayre Assembly of God church Monday at 2:30 o'clock.

Rev. Nath Franks, pastor will conduct the services.

Mrs. Smith died on the way to the hospital following the accident which occurred Wednesday.

She was born on August 25, 1918 at Sayre. She was reared in Sayre and attended Sayre schools. In September 1933 she was married to Roy Heinsohn at Grand. In 1950 she married Charles Smith.

She was a member of the Assembly of God church.

She is survived by two daughters; Mrs. Elsie Ann Langley, Shamrock, Texas; Glenda Smith of the home address; three sons; Billy Smith,(sic) Arnett; Carl Smith,(sic) home address and Darrell Smith(sic) of the home address.

Her mother, Mrs. Elsie Baker of Cheyenne and her father Bill Baker of Sayre also survive.

Other survivors are a sister, Mrs. Billie Kenwood of Lakeside, Washington and a brother, William Baker of Cheyenne.

Interment will be in the Berlin cemetery with Moore funeral home in charge of arrangements.
