Mrs. W.D. Merickel of Spruce Center died of typhoid fever. Her sickness was not complicated by any accidents other then are incident to said fever.
With regards to Mrs. Merickel's treatment by her husband. Last spring Mr. Merickel consulted me about Mrs. Merickel, obtained advice and treatment, and at that time manifested the most tender regard for her. During her last illness the same interest was shown and nothing was spared in attention, nursing and medical consultation to secure her recovery.
Being concerned in the care and medical treatment of Mrs. Merickel, and also released to the public officially, it has been thought proper in view of published rumors that I make a statement relative to her sickness and the cause of her death. I make the above statement not for the purpose of clearing Mr. Merickel of any act if he ever did a harsh act toward his wife but that the public might know the cause of her death. S.W. McEwan
*When she died, someone started a rumor that Watson threw her out a window and actually published it in the paper. The above is a response from the doctor who treated her in regards to the rumor that was published in the Alexandria Post previously. Jim C.
Eliza and Watson were married 11/28/1878 at Blue Earth, MN
They were the parents of Ada, Hattie and Grace.
