An illness of several year duration terminated Saturday night. March 10, 1928, in the death of William Reed Wagoner, 84 years old, at his home in Millersburg. Although confined to his home for nearly six years, his last sickness came suddenly and he passed quickly and quietly away with his wife and children around him. "Uncle Billy Wagoner" as he was known to his neighbors and friends was born into a Carolina home December 21, 1844, and was one of a large family, of which one sister, 80 years of age, still lives. When a young man he united with the Baptist church and January 2, 1865, at Laurel Springs, North Carolina, was married to Lucy B. Long and the young couple went to Indiana. A year later they came by wagon to Illinois and settled in Mercer County, where they have since lived. Pioneer hardships developed a gracious hospitality and a pleasing personality, which made them many friends. Eleven children grew to manhood and womanhood in this good family and made home of their own in nearby communities. Twelve years ago Mr. Wagoner sold his farm home and retired to Millersburg, where quiet, kind and unassuming, he and his good wife have since lived their neighborly lives and folks are saddened by his passing. Here three years ago they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Mr. Wagoner is survived by his widow, six daughters and four sons: Mrs. Sue Murdock of Millston, Wisc., Mrs. Jennie Belt, Mrs. Ida Archer, Mrs. Fern Fuhr, Earl and Lee of Aledo; Mrs. Lena Cooper of Reynolds; George of Andalusia; Will of Buffalo Prairie and Mrs. Martha Smith of Millersburg. One daughter Mrs. Belle Perry passed away nine years ago. The grandchildren number 39, and the great grandchildren 48. Funeral services were held from the home Tuesday afternoon. Rev. Leonard, pastor of the Marston Baptist Church, assisted by Rev Cardy, pastor of the Millersburg Presbyterian church officiated. Pallbearers were grandsons of the deceased. Interment was made in the Oak Ridge Cemetery.
