William H. Shacklett was a son of Blant Daniel Shacklett (1835-1916) and Ann R. Wimp (1843-1917) who traveled from Meade County, Kentucky to Patterson, Harvey County, Kansas in 1873. Blant Shacklett was a Confederate soldier during the Civil War. Blant and Ann Shacklett are buried in Star Cemetery in Harvey County, Kansas.

In 1900, the census shows that William was one of two hired hands working and living on the farm of John Goodson, a neighbor, in Lake Township, Harvey County, Kansas.

William married Elsie L. Davis and they had a daughter Thelma A. Shacklett who married Clyde Lester Earl. Thelma and Clyde Earl are buried only a few feet away from her parents at Wichita Park Cemetery.

William Shacklett purchased Carey Meat Market in Burrton, Kansas. A Dec. 15, 1911 advertisement for Shacklett's Meat Market in the Burrton newspaper stated that all meat and everything sold in their establishment was government inspected. An April 18, 1912 Burrton newspaper article said that large bones, one almost four feet in length, appearing to be those of a Mastadon, were on display at W. H. Shacklett Meat Market. The article states that the bones were discovered 28 years ago near Hillsboro, Iowa by A. A. Pilkington and his father while digging in the bed of Big Cedar Creek. Also found was a mammoth tooth. Note that Andrew A. Pilkington was married to William Shacklett's sister, Fannie.

The 1929 Wichita City Directory shows; Shacklett, W. H. (Elsie) news. "News" is shown where the person's occupation would be, but "news" wasn't shown or explained in the abbreviations listings of the directory. Their residence was 326 N. Millwood Street.

The 1930 Wichita City Directory shows; Shacklett, Wm. H.,
residence 2171 1/2 S. Lawrence Ave. Apt. 4.

The 1934 Wichita City Directory shows; Shacklett, W. H., (Elsie), residence 118 1/2 S. Broadway.

William later operated a grocery store at 359 N. Waco Street in Wichita which is the same address as a grocery store previously owned and operated by Coulson Wimp, a cousin and childhood neighbor to William Shacklett at Patterson, Harvey County, Kansas.

The 1943 Wichita Directory shows Wm. H. Shacklett (Elsie), residing at 1955 N. Madison Street.

William and Elsie Shacklett last resided at 2102 E. Third St. in Wichita, Kansas. A search for that house in 2010 was unsuccessful. It's likely because houses were removed from that area for water drainage improvements.
