DEATH OF BARBARA HITT

Mrs. Barbara Hitt, one of the pioneer settlers of Sedgwick county, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Sara McVicker, of Maize, Kan., Thursday morning at 4 o'clock. Mrs. Hitt had been ill only a short time. Mrs. Hitt came to Kansas in 1875 and settled near Maize. She was the mother of six children, only three of whom survive her, Mrs. Sara McVicker of Maize, Edwin Hitt of Mt. Hope and Elijah Baker, the only child of her first marriage. The funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Maize U.B. church. Interment will be made in the Maize cemetery.

Mrs. Barbara Hitt Dead At Maize at Age of 78.

Barbara Hitt, aged 78, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Sarah McVicar, at Maize, Kan., yesterday at 4 o'clock, after a brief illness. Mrs. Hitt was one of the pioneers of Sedgwick county, coming here from Marion county in 1875. She was born May 10, 1832.

Mrs. Hitt is survived by her three children, Mrs. Sarah McVicker of Maize, Edward Hitt of Mt. Hope, and Elijah Baker of Turner, Oro. She was married twice.

The funeral services will be held at the Maize United Brethren church at 2 p.m. today. Interment will be in Maize cemetery.

NOTE- There is no tombstone for Barbara Hitt in the Maize Park Cemetery. nor does she appear on the current cemetery records.
