HERRIN - Robert Lee "Redi-Bob" Simonds, 82, passed away at 12:50 p.m. Friday, March 14, 2008, in Herrin Hospital. All his friends knew him as "Redi-Bob". He retired from the City of Herrin and previously worked for Paul Hindman and Hindman Industries. Robert was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War. Mr. Simonds was a member of West Monroe Apostolic Church in Herrin, where he enjoyed being a part of the Men's Group. Robert's hobbies included fishing, going to yard sales, trips to the mall and running his grandchildren all over town. He enjoyed going to McDonald's, the truck stop and especially loved going to church. Redi-Bob loved to socialize with people and never met a stranger. He truly loved everyone.
Robert Lee was born October 12, 1925, in Cambria, the son of Albert and Kate (Ragsdale) Simonds. He married Lula Belle Williford, his love of 48 years. She survives in Herrin. Survivors include his wife, Lula Belle (Williford) Simonds of Herrin; one son, Hank Isbell and wife, Elizabeth of Herrin; three daughters, Pearl Alstat and husband, Richard, of Marion; Karen Isbell and her fiance, Gary Robinson, of Carterville and Betty Walker and husband, Calvin, of West Frankfort; seven grandchildren, Jeremiah Reagan of Herrin, Jeffrey Isbell of Herrin, Jeffrey "J.D." Severs of Marion, Holly Isbell of Carterville, Caycee Isbell of Herrin, Robert Lee "Cody" Alstat of Marion, Michael Walker of West Frankfort; one great-grandson, Brennan Reagan of Herrin; one brother-in-law, Valjean Russell of Chicago; and several nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers and one sister. The family would like to extend a special "thank you" to the caring doctors, nurses and staff at Herrin Hospital, especially Dr. Parks, Dr. Sean and Dr. Cowart. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends, especially his friends at Fresenius Medical Center in Marion. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2008, in Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin, with the Rev. Terry Griffith and the Rev. Don Colson officiating. Burial will be in Herrin City Cemetery, with military rites presented by Herrin's American Legion and VFW posts.
