MUNCIE – John H. Cheesman, 94, passed away peacefully at his residence, Sunday, April 3, 2016.

He was born February 28, 1922 in Winchester, Indiana, the son of the late Hugh and Abigail (Sharp) Cheesman. John graduated from Ridgeville High School in 1940. On April 10, 1948 he married Reta J. Beckenholdt who preceded him in death in 1996.

John served in the United States Air Force from 1943 to 1946 as a radio operator during WWII. He farmed in Wayne County from 1951 to 1964 and moved to Delaware County to work for American Breeders Service (ABS) from 1964 until his retirement in 1995. He loved watching his grandchildren play baseball and he enjoyed watching college basketball. His love for animals, especially beef and dairy cattle, always drew him to the county fairs and the Delaware County Ag Days.

He is survived by three children, Kathryn A. York; Randall B. Cheesman, (wife-Jan); and Sue E. Dunn, (husband-Bruce), all of Muncie; seven grandchildren, Greg York, (Amanda Hirtzell); Dan York, (Jeana Anderson); Jennifer Strong; Kelly Cheesman; Amber Hawk; Darren Dunn; and Dennis Dunn; two brothers, Reed Cheesman, (wife-Marge); Cloy Cheesman, (wife-Wanetta); sister-in-law, Ula Cheesman; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife of 48 years, Reta J. Cheesman; two sisters, Ila Mae Disinger; and Mary Irene Oler; and six brothers, Donald, Eugene, Robert, Wallace, Keith, and Albert Cheesman.
