Deacon graduated from Rocky River High School in June 1963. He was a letter winner and played on 3 SWC championship teams. After graduation Deacon went to college at the University of Toledo majoring in Geology. He won his numerals in his freshman football team and because of the clash between practices and class & lab hours had to focus on the studies.
He mat his future wife in Toledo when both were attending college.
He was a concrete tester for the West Virginia Highway system. When they moved back to Cleveland he worked as a supervisor at Dock 20 in Cleveland. In January of 1969, he became an air traffic controller. He also worked for the Department of Defense in Cleveland. After he retired from the Federal government, he went to work for the Ohio Turnpike Commission.
He lived in Vermilion, Ohio since 1971.
