Captain Robert W. Adams
Death of an Old Merchant, a Man of Affairs

The announcement of the death of Captain Robert W. Adams, which occurred yesterday evening, will be received with sorrow by a host of friends and acquaintances in this city. Born in Scott County, Ky., in 1823, Captain Adams removed to New Orleans in 1840, and resided here ever since. In the early fifties he was one of the largest wholesale grocers, and was several times appointed bank director on the part of the state. He was for several terms before the war an active and vigilant member of the upper board of the municipal council. He was a member of the secession convention and was the first to affix his signature to the ordinance. Captain Adams has devoted his latter years to steamboat interests, being one of the most prominent agents in the city. During Governor McEnery's term he was one of the members of the board of harbormasters. His courteous manners, integrity and general business habits made him widely and favorably known among his fellow citizens and secured to him on several occasions important public trusts.
