Gaffney, May 28 - E. Hardin, 93, COnfederate Veteran and believed to be the oldest citizen of Cherokee County, died at the home of his niece, Mrs. J. W. George, 114 Johnson Street at 6 o'clock tonight.

During the War Between the States, Mr. Hardin served with Company E, Fifth Regiment, South Carolina Volunteer. He had made his home with his niece here for the past 11 years.

Mr. Hardin was a member of the Masonic order and had been identified with that fraternal order for more than half a century.

He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and was superintendent of the Sunday School.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday morning at 10:30 o'clock at the Antioch Church. The Rev. R. A. McFarland, pastor of the First Baptist Church and Rev. H. V. Tanner, of Spartanburg will be the officiating ministers.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Beverly Patterson, of King's Mountain, and Mrs. R. D. Johnson, of Spencer, N. C. and two nieces, Mrs. J. R. Gracy, of Marion, N. C. and Mrs. George of this city. (Transcribed by Record Hunter)
