Benjamin Franklin "FRANK" Collins

Frank was born in KY, as was his father before him. He was a young child when his parents, grandparents, and a number of other family members moved to Greene Co., AL. in about 1819. Information about Franks mother is unclear , but after giving birth to three children ,Dillard, Sarah, and Frank Collins,she died while the family still lived in KY.

Richard Collins remarried Sarah Baldwin, in KY, in about 1817.They had two children together , Frances Madison Collins (1818-1905) and Samuel Richard Collins (1822-1897). Sarah took these two children to Montegomery Co., KY ,where her family lived, after Richard Collins died in 1822 in AL.

AL court records tie Frank to his father, Richard Collins, and his grandfather Elisha Collins. Franks father, Richard, died in Greene Co., AL . His estate was filed in th Greene Co., AL Court and the first document filed about his estate was dated 28 Jan 1823. Meredith Collins, (Richards brother) , and Elisha Collins ,( Richards father), were appointed as administrators of Richards estate. Elisha was also appointed guardian of Richards three children from his first marriage, Dillard, Sarah, and Frank plus another Collins child named Geary Collins.

Frank bought land in the most southwest corner of Greene Co in late 1833. The land was about 1/2 mile from the eastern border of the Choctaw Indian Nation. On 16 Sept 1834 he married Clarinda T. Wallace in Greene Co. AL. They had one son together named John Wallace Collins before Clarinda died in 1841. Clarindas father James Wallace named John Wallace Collins in his will and linked John to his parents Benjamin F and Clarinda Collins.

Frank remarried Emily Graham in Sumpter Co., AL on 17 Mar 1842. They settled in Choctaw Co., AL and had five more sons ; Henry Clay Collins, Thomas Jefferson Collins, Benjamin Franklin Collins , Dr. David Wallace Collins , and Robert Bruce Collins. Frank and his family were reported living in Choctaw for the 1850 Federal Census and his estate was probated in the Choctaw Co., AL Courthouse on 16 Oct 1862.

Frank enlisted as a Private when the "F" Co. AL 38th Infantry was formed in Mobile, AL in May, 1862.
Soon after, he died of disease on July 17, 1862
