Born in Rock Island, Ill., he was the son of Logan and Nellie Winston Dutton. On Sept. 9, 1962, he married Andrea Aho in Monmouth, Ill.
Mr. Dutton was a farmer in the Coldbrook, Ill., and Little York areas most of his life. He then worked as a mechanic at Smith Implement in Kirkwood before opening J and J Repairs in Kirkwood, which he co–operated for 13 years. He then worked at the Case–IH dealership in Aledo. For the last few years he worked as a mechanic at Birkey's in rural Galesburg and retired in 2005 due to health.
He was raised and educated in the Kirkwood area. He was a 1961 graduate of Yorkwood High School. He was an active member of Sugar Tree Grove Church where he was an elder and trustee.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Krisitna Selquist of Peru, Ill.; two sons, Charles S. Dutton and Jerry L. Dutton Jr., both of Kirkwood; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Peggy Lantz and Mary Fonseca, both of Monmouth; four brothers, Robert Dutton of Everett, Wash., Jack Dutton of Monmouth, Bill Dutton of Oquawka, Ill., and Jim Dutton of Kirkwood; nieces; and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, one in infancy.
The funeral was held at Turnbull Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dottie Halverson officiating.
