Mrs. Paul Leschig, 66
, of Rt. 2, Manitowoc, Town of Two Rivers, widow of a
Town of Two Rivers cheesemaker, took her own life at the home of a daughter,
Mrs. Walter Wigen, on Rt. 2, Manitowoc, late Wednesday. She had been in
failing health for several months.
Funeral services tentatively have been set for Saturday with burial in Pioneers'
Rest Cemetery, Two Rivers.
Mrs. Leschig, nee Sophie Grone, was born Sept. 12, 1893, in Wunstorf, Germany,
daughter of the late Franz and Minnie Heuer Grone. She was married at Wunstorf
to Paul Leschig in 1918. The family immigrated to this country in 1925, settling
at Newtonburg, Manitowoc County, where her husband became a cheesemaker. In 1928
the family moved to the Town of Two Rivers. Mr. Leschig died May 4, 1958. Mrs.
Leschig was a member of the Homemakers, Ladies Aid Society of Immanuel church
and the Auxiliary of the Freier Saengerbund of Manitowoc.
Besides the daughter she leaves two sons, Paul of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Walter
of Henderson, Nev.; five sisters, Mrs. George Hatopp of Two Rivers and Mrs. Helen
Knope, Mrs. Louise Huhne, Mrs. Frieda Siedle and Mrs. Augusta Bantleman of
Germany; two brothers, Franz and William of Germany, and eight grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Klein & Stangel Inc., Funeral Home, Two Rivers, after
2 p.m. Friday until 10 a.m. Saturday when the casket will be taken to the church
where the body will lie in state until the time of services.
