Elmer J. Classen

Balko -- Elmer J. Classen died Nov. 15 in Nashville, Tenn.

He was 79 years old. He was born Nov. 18, 1904 in Balko. He is a resident of Beaver County until 1959. He was a general contractor and builder, a rancher and farmer.

He married Blossom Venable May 26, 1928 at Yuma, Ariz. He was a member of the Balko Mennonite Brethren Church.

In his contracting, he built the present Beaver Grade School and the present Beaver County Memorial Hospital. He built the Forgan School and the Garrett School. He was a board member of the Oklahoma State Resources and Development under three governors.

Survivors include his wife, Blossom of Nashville, Tenn.; two sons, Dr. Kenneth Classen, Leo Classen, both of Nashville; two half-brothers, Ivan Mayes of Austin, Tex., Allen Mayes of Enid; one half-sister, Leona Mayes Bechthold of Perryton, Tex.; four grandchildren; and also great grandchildren.

Services will be Sunday, Nov. 18 at 2:30 p.m.from the Balko Mennonite Brethren Church with Pastor Gaylord Goertzen officiating. Interment will be in the Balko Mennonite Cemetery under the direction of Clarks Funeral Services of Beaver.
