PALMER — Valda I. “Val” Blauhorn, 57, of Palmer died Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at Howard County Medical Center in St. Paul.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Zion United Methodist Church near Archer. The Revs. Janet Burgel and Martin Leeper will officiate. Interment will be in the Archer Evangelical Community Cemetery. Greenway Funeral Home in Palmer is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Blauhorn was born Sept. 4, 1958, in Ainsworth to Zane and Lavonne (Smith) Hipke. She was raise in Ainsworth until the age of seven when the family moved to Grand Island. She attended Grand Island schools and graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1976. Val then began working at Equitable Bank in Grand Island. She also worked in her parent’s floral shop, The Florette.

She was united in marriage to William “Bill” Blauhorn on May 15, 1982, at Zion United Methodist Church near Archer.

The couple lived east of Palmer where they were active farmers. Val worked with her husband on the farm, enjoying the farm life driving tractors, stacking bales, working with cows and loved the semi-trucks of Blauhorn Trucking. She also did the bookwork for the farm.

Val had many talents and enjoyed sewing, scrapbooking, many different types of crafts, was very creative making flower arrangements and liked to garden and cook. Val enjoyed playing cards and other games, reading, and square dancing. She also sung in many different choirs.

Family time was very important to Val, as she loved to spend time with her grandchildren. She also liked to research family history. Val spent time as a Mary Kay consultant.

She was a member of Zion United Methodist Church where she served on many committees and taught Sunday School, United Methodist Women, Domestic Godesses, Litzenberg Memorial Hospital Board and had served on the Archer Credit Union Board.

Survivors include her husband, William “Bill” Blauhorn of Palmer; a daughter, Heather Blauhorn of Grand Island; two sons and daughters-in-law, Joshua and Kristi Blauhorn and their children, Peyton and Braxton of Palmer and James and Chelsea Blauhorn and their children, Maya, Addison and Avery of Palmer; her father, Zane Hipke of Grand Island; two brothers, Vance Hipke and Sharon Greving of Chapman and Gary Hipke and his wife, Pam of Grand Island; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Orville and Barbara Blauhorn of Palmer; brother-in-law, Terry Blauhorn and his wife, Nancy of Palmer; sister-in-law, Susan Bulling and her husband, John of Waverly and nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Lavonne Hipke.
