(pg. 3, Ithaca Daily Journal, June 26, 1889)DEATH OF AN ENFIELD PATRIARCH

Reuben Rolfe, of Enfield, aged nearly ninety, and one of if not the oldest resident of that town, died at about 3 o'clock this morning of old age and heart failure. His funeral occurs at his late home at 2 o'clock to-morrow afternoon. Mr. Rolfe was enrolled in the JOURNAL's list of the Harrison old guard and cast his last presidential vote for the "grandson" last fall. He was a highly esteemed citizen and a deacon of the Baptist church. He was a few years ago afflicted with cancer and at Rome, N.Y., sacrificed one eye entirely to that scourge. He leaves him surviving his son Henry with whom he made his home near Van Dorn's corners and at whose house he died; and also Ezra, Warren and Sydney E., all residents of Enfield except the latter, who lives in Ulysses. His daughters are Mrs. Amos Lanning, Mrs. T.J. Lanning and Miss Emma. The latter lived with her father and Mrs. T. Lanning returned from Dakota in season to be with her father during his last illness. Ex-County Clerk Squire B. Rolfe is a nephew of the deceased.
