Dorothy Bea Ripley graduated from Whitman High School in 1923 and from Brockton Hospital School of Nursing in 1926. Beatrice worked as the supervisor at Brockton Hospital prior to having children in 1931.Beatrice and Thomas were married in Kings New York in 1928. Beatrice and Thomas had four children Thomas, Robert, Albert and daughter -Private.
Beatrice was always very active in church nd a member of the local church and in Carver it was the United Parish of Carver. In the 1960's and 1970's Beatrice blossomed as an artist painting pictures and writing poetry. Beatrice did enjoy her artwork and handicrafts and she had exhibited her works locally in Carver. Beatrice moved from Carver to her Bea Hive,a cozy little house in Kingston in 1979.

According to Beatrice my grandmother: Her biological mother's name is Ethel Henrietta Worthington (born Oct 10, 1884) daughter of father Lucius Worthington(born Sept 21, 1858 and died Oct 27, 1893 at 34 y 1 m and 5d of hemorrhage) and mother Martha Adaline Clingen (born April 18, 1860 and married Lucius on Nov 1, 1883)and 1st daughter Ethel married Francis White Shepherd. Mother's sister is Caroline May Worthington born Sept 8, 1888.Third child a son was Ellis D Worthington born March 25,1893. The Ethel-Francis marriage was not a happy one and one child was placed in a foundling home and with relatives. Beatrice the second child was placed with Home for Little Wanderers in Boston. Beatrice was adopted a third time by the Ripley family living in Whitman, MA. The Ripley's were great people and I did meet some of them when I was a kid. Nanna Bea told the story that when she was adopted mother adopted her because she loved her in her heart and not below her heart. This eased Beatrice and got her to stop crying.

The four children of Francis White Shepherd and Ethel Henrietta Worthington are:(1) Evelyn Worthington Shepherd born Sep 30, 1904 and died Feb 1, 1982; (2) Dorothy Beatrice Shepherd born Jan 20, 1906 and died Feb 8, 1993; (3) Francis Worthington Shepherd born Oct 1, 1908 and died Aug 1974; and (4) Westley Philip Shepherd born May 13, 1913. Based on the 1930 US Census Evelyn Worthington Shepherd lived with Caroline May Lawrence and her husband Earle E Lawrence and the two sons Paul and Charles.

Nanna Bea mentioned meeting her biological mother and Francis Shepherd died at a young age. Thank's to John McNally the connection with Francis Shepherd was accomplished. The White's and the Shepherd's were neighbors in Scotland and the two families came to America and continued being neighbors.

My grandmother was a wonderful woman and mentor. She liked making phone calls and writing letters to loved ones. She never forgot a birthday and the birthday cards always arrived. Nanna was very generous with her time. Each of her grandchildren got a week with her every summer. She was familiar with the Bible and had studied the Bible for years. Nanna could quote her favorite passages. In later years when she was not able to get to church on Sunday's her favorite show was The Glass Cathedral. Bea loved to cook and her favorite was baking cookies, pies, and cakes. More to come...
