LEWIS STANLEY EADS
Our county was shocked and saddened by the sudden death of L. S. Eads on Saturday, June 18, at his home near Grand Valley. Lewis Stanley Eads was born in Jackson County, Iowa December 12, 1875 and departed from this life June 18, 1930 at the age of 51 years, 7 months and 6 days.
Mr. Eads was among the first settlers in this community--coming to Oklahoma then called "No Man's Land", in 1905 with his wife and baby girl. He filed on his homestead and lived there up until his death. Mrs. Eads preceded her husband in death a year and ten days. Mr. Eads was a kind and loving father, a good neighbor and besides the great loss to his family will be missed greatly by the community. He was a very active and progressive man in all respects. He leaves to mourn his loss three brothers, four sisters, his father-in-law, Mr. Doty, and eight children. The oldest child, Gladys Eads, passed at 2 years, 6 months and 4 days.
Those living are Irma Scott; Dare Eads, age 19; Aubry Eads, age 16; Ruby Eads, age 14; Dot Eads, age 11; Alma Eads, age 8; David Eugene, not quite 3.
All are at home at present exept baby, David Eugene, who has been in the care of Mrs. Bob Smith of Hardesty since soon after the death of his mother. Mr Eads had been known to remark at different times that his baby was being cared for better than he and the children could care for him. The sympathy and love of the entire community goes out to those children who, at this young age, and in so short a time, have had to give up both father and mother. It seems never so great the darkness, but "there is some light." There are but few families of children as capable of handling the great responsibility that has been left them as the Eads children are. We hope and trust that though young in year, the older children will ever remember that their lives are an example for their younger brother and sisters.
Funeral services were conducted at Camrick school house Monday afternoon by Rev Bryan of Perryton, Texas. Friends and neighbors filled the school house while Rev. Bryan rendered a very consoling sermon to all. The body was then conducted to Pleasant Ridge Cemetery by Undertaker Moore of Guymon, Oklahoma followed by a large crowd of friends and neighbors. After which he was placed in his last resting place with his wife.
Published in the Panhandle Herald, Guymon, Okla., Thurs., July 17, 1980, p. 8.

Lewis Stanley Eads and Pearl Doty were married September 4, 1902 at Magnoketa, Jackson County, Iowa.
