Aaron Philip Schmitt, of Lodi, passed away in Lodi at the age of 85. Mr. Schmitt was born in Wishek, N.D. to Henry and Christina Schmitt on December 7, 1921. He was raised in N. D. and attended schools there. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1945. He moved to Lodi in January of 1946. He married Ida Viola Pfeifle on March 17, 1946 in Lodi Emanuel Lutheran Church. He had been employed at Eastside Winery for 34 years in Lodi. He enjoyed working in the vineyards. He also enjoyed singing in the choir in church. He was a long-time member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, past committee person for the Cub Scouts, member of VFW Post 1968 in Lodi and life member of VFW Post 1267 in Sacramento. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ida Viola Schmitt of Lodi; son, Donald Schmitt of Galt; daughter, Sharon (Rolland) Delk of Lodi and son, Keith Schmitt of Sonoma; three grandchildren, Kathleen Linz, Michelle Beighey and Gail Castle; four great-grandchildren, Tiffany, Michael, Stephanie and Erin; three great-great- grandchildren, Jared, Carlos and Michael. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Richard Linz; siblings, Henry Schmitt, Magdaline Oster, Gottlieb Schmitt, Wilma Stock., Irene Vette, Anna Schmitt, Esther Albrecht, Jacob Schmitt, Martha Kramer and Lydia Albrecht. A memorial service will be held on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at Emanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Bill Crabtree officiating. There is no visitation, and committal will be private. In lieu of flowers, family requests memorial remembrances be made to Emanuel Lutheran Church, 1540 W. Lodi Avenue, Lodi, CA 95240.
