Naomi Gertrude Clary McCord, age 94, of Maysville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, March 27, 2016, at Maysville Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility, in Maysville. She was the widow of James A. “Jimmie” McCord, who died in May 1985.She was a member of Plumville Church of Christ. In 1947, she graduated from the registered nursing course at Good Samaritan Hospital, in Lexington, and she worked at Hayswood Hospital and Meadowview Regional Hospital for a total of 39 years. She was born in Lewis County, Kentucky, to the late Page and Myrtle Koffman Clary on September 9, 1921.
Gertrude is survived by: two sons, Jerry McCord and Garry “Corkey” McCord, both of Maysville; a daughter, Carol (Jackie) Shields, of Maysville; a foster daughter, Frances (Tracy) Helton, of Robertson County; a sister, Edna Delong, of Tollesboro; a cousin, Dorothy Addison, of Paris; eight grandchildren; and a foster grandchild. She was preceded in death by a great-grandchild, Jacob McCord.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 31, at Brell and Son Funeral Home, with Bro. Phil Cropper officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Carmel Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers are Joseph McCord, Adam Wheeler, Matthew Wheeler, Marty Mastin, Johnny DeLong, Hunter DeLong, Jerry McCord and Corkey McCord. Honorary pallbearers are Kristi Sweet, Kendra McCord, Ricky Mefford, Tammy Hedge, Caleb Wheeler, Jamie Toncray, Brittany McCord, Sharon Sweet and Woody Sweet. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Maysville Extended Care Facility and Robertson County Health Care Facility.
