Loretta Mae Lydig (June 26, 1934 - March 4, 2016)
Our beloved SWEETHEART, Loretta, passed peacefully at home, with daughter Linda and granddaughter Heather at her side. We were comforted by the knowledge that as we let go of her, she was embraced in the loving arms of her husband Dean and daughter Pam on the other side.
Loretta was the radiant light that warmed our hearts and lit our way for 81 wonderful years. She was a true vision of beauty inside and out and a true loving spirit. Her smile and brilliant bright Blue eyes spoke volumes. Her positive sunny personality never wavered. We will miss her so so much.
Loretta was the fourth child born to Elias Mitias and Elizabeth Violet Standal in Rock Island, WA, but made Spokane her home. A cute little majorette from Lewis and Clark High School, she married her handsome athletic "Hillyard bad boy" at age 18. Twin daughters, Linda and Pamela were born a year later at Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base, where Dean was stationed. Back in Spokane they built a successful life and loving marriage that spanned 61 years. Loretta was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She felt that "A happy family is but an earlier Heaven" and set her life force to that purpose.
Words to describe her: beautiful, positive, kind, generous, fun loving, creative, artistic, intelligent, health centered, patriotic, hardworking, frugal and strong. She was also a very mechanically gifted, problem solver who didn't back down from a challenge. Loretta could entertain kings as easily as "camp out cook", but no matter what the setting, she was our "Glam girl." She always looked gorgeous. Hobbies included camping, back packing, snow/water skiing, horses, RV travel, cruises, entertaining and creating a beautiful home.
She always worked, retiring at age 78. Early years at the Ridpath; middle years at the County Courthouse; later 30 plus years for her brother Al Standal, at Spokane Power Tool.
Her greatest Joy was the birth of Bodhi Kane Parish, her first great-grandchild on May 26, 2015. His warrior spirit mirrors hers.
A 2012 diagnosis of advanced cancer brought new challenges to her life, as did the loss of her daughter and husband. Throughout all, her courage and grace were an inspiration. She did everything possible to stay longer with those she loved. Rest in peace our precious angel. Thank you for your love.

Survived by her immediate family: Robert and Linda Stephan, Virginia Stephan, Andrew and Heather Parish, Bodhi Kane Parish and Ron Laycock; siblings: Norman (Brenda) Standal, Alfred (Vickie) Standal, Dorothy (James) Backstrom, Millie Fisher and all their beloved family members; local family includes: Sharon (Darrell) Urlacher, Doug (Toni) Lydig, Russ (DeeDee) Lydig, Jeff (Patti) Standal, Rodney (Polly) Reichel, Jamie Lumbardi-Reichel and all their beloved family members; kisses and hugs to her many cherished lifelong friends. Family dogs, Cubby and Bear are now being spoiled by Linda.
Loretta and Dean will be interred together in a private service at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery at Medical Lake, WA.
