On October 2, 2006 Robert Paul Robbins, Sr. went to be with the Lord. Paul was born in Picher, Oklahoma and raised in Corpus Christi. Paul, affectionately known as Paw Paw. He was an American hero to those that knew him. During WWII he flew B-17's and ended up finishing the war as a POW in Germany.

Upon leaving the military, Paul attended A and M receiving a bachelor's degree. Paul went to work for Mobil Oil for several years, living in Abilene. Work took Paul and family to New York and then to Midland. Paul was active in the Commemorative Air Force, the Air Force Association, A and M Alumni, POW/MIA, and the Reagan Ranch Foundation. He also enjoyed golf, hunting and fishing.

Preceded in death by his loving wife Dorothy, sister, Margaret, brother, Claude, and parents, Irene and Carl.

Paul is survived by Robert Paul Robbins Jr. and Kathleen, Benny and Candace Matlock, John and Martha Meyler, Jimmy and Paula Shirley, Robert Shirley. Grandchildren: Robert P. Robbins III, Kenny Culp, Chris and Chad Matlock, Jason and Jeff Meyler, Jeannie Vasquez, Robin Alexander, Chad, Todd and Brook Shirley and 5 great-grandchildren, and a host of friends.

Funeral services have been scheduled for 3:00 P.M. Friday, October 6, 2006 in the Chapel of First Baptist Church of Midland. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland. Pallbearers will be Robert Paul Robbins III, Kevin Matlock, Kenny Culp, Chris Matlock, Chad Matlock and Brian Rippee. Honorary pallbearers are John Williams and Bill Huffman. Shot down by flak and fighters over Hengelo, Holland during a bombing mission on Braunschweig, Germany.
All crew ejected, but the parachute of Ambrose was not the pilot, he was a gunner
S/Sgt. Emil F. Ambrose does not open and he dies.
The remaining crew survives: 1st Lt. Charles E. Robertson, 2nd Lt. Robert P. Robbins, navigator 2nd lt. Milton J. Kaplan, F/O Earl E. Holmes, T/Sgt. William R. Delany, S/Sgt. Norris R. Stewart, Lloyd M. Gabriel and Earl W. Winburn
The plane belongs to the 351st Bomb Group, 511st Bomb Squadron.
