Roy Wayne Smith, 81, son of George M. and Victoria Inman Smith, was born July 21, 1916, near Yukon. He died Dec. 6, 1997, at his home near Eunice.

He was a lifetime resident of the Eunice community, where he worked in the timber and did carpenter work. He was an avid hunter and fisherman as long as his health permitted. He enjoyed bluegrass music and bluegrass gospel, singing and playing in church.

He was converted in 1952 and was an active member of the Yukon Methodist Church, serving as Sunday School superintendent for many years. Following the closing of the Yukon Church, he attended the Eunice Baptist Church.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Alva Sevedge and Tom Smith; and two sisters, Opal Bowen and Geneva White. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Helen; one son, Charles and wife Marlyn of Eunice; three sisters, Alice Hostetter of Licking, Nellie Branson of St. Louis and Mildred Brown of Cabool; one brother, Floy "Peck" Smith of Houston; two granddaughters and and two great-grandchildren.

Services were Dec. 9 at the Eunice Baptist Church with the Rev. Albert Steelman and the Rev. Jim Jackson officiating. Burial was in the Big Creek Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home of Houston.
