Joel Monroe Albritton, age 70 passed away on Monday, March 21, 2016 in Sarasota, FL. He was born March 30, 1945 in Tampa, FL. moving to Sarasota 25 years ago from Mt. Dora.

Joel was a member of the Kiwanis; Mason’s; he owned and operated Flowers by Joel; he was a consultant for Golden Gem Growers in Umatilla, FL; and was a representative for Home Shopping Network in the U.S and Canada.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of Wauchula.

Joel was a substitute teacher in the school system during the Hardee County Teachers Union strike during the 1967-68 school term. He and other residents kept the Hardee County schools open for the students in opposition to the union tactics. He was admired with countless other qualified fill-in teachers for their efforts to help the area families. In later years Joel taught classes in Floral Design & Arrangement in the Adult Education Program in Hardee County Florida.

He is preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Hilda (Bethea) Albritton, brother Donald and paternal grandparents Wiley and Sylvania (Hall) Albritton.

Joel is survived by his wife Connie Albritton of Sarasota; daughter Missy Albritton of Sarasota; two brothers Frankie Albritton, Leland Albritton; and three grandchildren Ashley Nicklow, Blue Fusca and Haylee Wolfer.
