GATENS, MAURICE, 89 Dunnellon - Maurice Gatens was born August 26, 1917 in Bancroft, West Virginia and died suddenly at his home in Dunnellon, Florida on April 9, 2007. Mr. Gatens is survived by his wife of 60 years, Janette (Betty) Gatens of Dunnellon, his son, Dr. Robert Gatens and granddaughter Bailey Gatens of Fairfax, Virginia; his daughter Barbara Gatens and husband Bill Durrence of Savannah, GA., and three sisters, Margaret Cargill of Sarasota, FL., Judy Witt of Gaithersburg, MD., and Rosalie Waldorf of Nitro, West Virginia. Mr. Gatens was a graduate of Morris Harvey College, served in the Navy during WWII and employed as a research chemist then safety supervisor by Monsanto for 40 years. He and his beloved brother Paul (aka Moe and Boe) were part time golfers and full time story tellers who entertained and endeared family and friends with ever changing legends of their life. Mr. Gatens was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Community where services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 14, 2007 with Father Joe Pinchcock officiating. Arrangements by ROBERTS FUNERAL HOME in DUNNELLON - STILL FAMILY OWNED AND OPERATED.
