Richard Honodel Winters, 93, died Friday, March 18, 2016, at Brookdale Senior Living Solutions, Dodge City, Kan.

He was born May 24, 1922, in Smithsburg, Md., the son of Ardie and Shirdah (Honodel) Winters.

He moved to Dodge City in the summer of 2014 from the Hagerstown, Md., area, where he had been a resident for 30 years. He was a retired minister and college administrator, and enjoyed gardening, reading and doing handyman activities. He also enjoyed music and good food.

On June 22, 1946, he married Peggy Herr in Lancaster, Pa. She preceded him in death on March 20, 2014.

Survivors include his four children, Richard Winters II and wife, Suzy, Charlotte, N.C.; Diane Martin and husband, Scott, Dodge City; Betty Saavedra and husband Dave, Claremont, Calif.; and Robert Winters and his partner, James Drainer, St. Louis, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and two brothers.

Memorial services will be held at a later date in Maryland.

The family suggests memorials to the Hospice of the Prairie and Prairie Home Health, or to the Christ Reformed United Church of Christ, both in care of Ziegler Funeral Chapel, 1901 N. 14th Ave., Dodge City, KS 67801.
