ALCORN, John Byron - 70, Bear River, died March 18, 2003, in Digby General Hospital. Born in Bear River, he was a son of the late Marjorie (Jefferson) Alcorn Sanford and Murray Alcorn. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a shift officer for the Cornwallis Base Fire Department for 35 years. Retired and farming at his home in Bear River, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Surviving are his daughter, Karen (Paul) Gray, Bear River; sisters, Barbara (Robert) Bouvette, Halifax; Doris Sanford, Lawrencetown; Peigi Alcorn, Cornwallis; brothers, Keith (Sheila) Alcorn, Round Hill; Lawrence (Sue) Alcorn, Dartmouth; grandchildren, Jennifer Gray, Ashley Gray; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Judy (Perry) Alcorn; son, Mark Alcorn; grandson, Nicholas Alcorn; brothers, Glendon Alcorn, Donald Alcorn, Joseph Alcorn; sisters, Aileen (Alcorn) Gesner, Shirley (Alcorn) Brydon. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Friday in Jayne's Funeral Home, Digby. Funeral service 2 p.m. Saturday in Bear River United Church, Rev. Wade Reppart and Rev. Maclean Kumi officiating. Interment in Mount Hope Cemetery. Family flowers only, donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society.
