CHARLES A. BALDWIN, SR. (Age 79)

Of Springfield, VA, passed away on February 10, 2016. He is survived by his wife Clara; sons Chuck (Erin) and Brad (Carolyn); grandchildren, Ginger, India Jane, and Tiberius; siblings Godfrey Baldwin and Elizabeth French (Joshua); and many nieces and nephews. He was a devoted father, a wonderful husband and a committed family man.

He retired as Regional Director with the Defense Investigative Service, Capital Region, and served DIS from 1972 to 1994. Prior to that, he was with the Naval Investigative Service and the Office of Naval Intelligence. With ONI he served in Vietnam and at Guantanamo Bay.

Charlie was born in Parris Island, SC, and grew up near the naval base in Norfolk, VA. He attended Norfolk Catholic High School and the Norfolk College of William & Mary (Old Dominion University). He loved sports and was a letterman in football and basketball. He always rooted for the home team, having held season tickets to the Washington Redskins, New Orleans Saints and USC Gamecocks at various times throughout his life. In retirement, he regularly attended West Springfield High School girls' basketball games.

He enjoyed golf and his many friends at the Springfield Golf and Country Club and served as a marshal at numerous PGA and USGA events in the area. He also loved to attend reunions and socialize with former colleagues and friends he made over the years.

For the last few years he struggled with a form of myositis (a degenerative muscle disease) and interstitial lung disease, though neither caused him any pain. He passed quickly and painlessly from cardiac arrest.

A Memorial Visitation will be held at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home, 9902 Braddock Road, Fairfax, VA, on Monday, February 15 from 5 to 8 p.m.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 7600 Old Keene Mill Rd, Springfield, VA, on February 16 at 11 a.m., followed by a reception at Springfield Golf and Country Club.

An Inurnment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to MyositisFoundation.org.
