Many glowing words were spoken and recorded on this man. ''Of all Irish Rebels he was the boldest.....''
There was a well covered meeting of friends said to have been in the neighborhood of 700 people at Copp's Saloon on Louisiana Ave on Tuesday March 7 at 7pm.. It was said he was healthy and was suddenly stricken. Mentioned Northern Ireland and being the son of a prominent attorney. Trinity College education.
Apparently there had been a meeting at Flint's Hotel the night before, likely to set up the well attended tribute the following night. Speaker most mentioned was a ''John Mitchel'' who seems to have a bit of a headliner.

The above was my original search found in the papers of the day. Since then, HWA a fellow findagrave friend, referred me to a link that has a fair amount of information on this notable Irish figure of his time, and a Washington Post cartoon feature which I have included in the photo section from the Sunday Post, Comic section from March 26 2017, ''Flashbacks [of History] by Patrick M. Reynolds''.

The link is to something listed as ''Fenian Graves'', contributor was John B. Haltigan, and includes a wonderful photo of the marker by Jack O'Brien, before the upper section became sunken in the sod below as seen in my photos.
Hopefully the recent exposure might help lead to some restoration of the marker.

Thomas Devin Reilly, ..''the Honor Roll of Irish Patriots, who over the centuries have struggled, fought and died for the freedom and independence of Ireland...'' it begins.

mentions that he was on bail from the British Government during the height of unrest during the 1848 famine, he fled to America. A young Irish intellectual and writer he an others were more radical minded and broke away from the more traditional voices. ''The Young Irelanders'' they were referred to.
