Montravaile's obituary stated his name as M.W. Robinson:
Mr. M.W. Robinson, an old confederate veteran, died at the home of his son Mr. William Robinson on last Friday afternoon, he was 82 years old and died of general disability. He was a good unassuming citizen and a kind father. He leaves seven children and dozens of grandchildren and several great grandchildren to mourn his death. The children living in town are Mesdames E.D. and L. Jackson Green, and Messrs. William and Charles Robinson. The funeral took place Saturday at the Zoar Methodist Church and conducted by Rev. Mr. Powers.

He was the son of George D. Robeson and Elizabeth Palmer, who left North Carolina and moved to Texas. Burial places have not yet been found.
Montravaile married Louisa Boyd about 1853. She died in 1901.
Per Civil War records, Montville W. Robeson, age 34, of Buncombe County, North Carolina, enlisted in Co. K, NC 60th Infantry Regiment on 15 May 1862.
After the war, he returned to Buncombe County, NC and about 1872, he and his family moved to Greenville County, South Carolina.
