NOTED OIL OPERATOR DIES IN WITCHITA FALLS

The most important and historic park in Wichita Falls, Texas is dedicated to Saunders because she died here while working the Burkburnett Oil Boom. The land was donated for this park to memorialize her by Francis Ann Dickerson.
Mrs. Lucy O. Saunders, one of Americas foremost woman oil operators, died here today of Spanish Influenza. She amazed a vast fortune in the oil business, operating successfully in the Sour Lake, Batson, Tulsa and the Burkburnett fields. One of her most notable achievements was development of the Sunshine Hill, Texas field.∼According to Texas Death Certificate Mrs. Lucy O'Neil Sanders was born in New York to C. O'Neil of New York and Ann Dalton of Ireland.
