Harlan Carlyle Almlie was the son of Iver L. & Cora M. Almlie of Bricelyn, MN and brother of Mildred Luverna, Jane Lorrine, and Mae Ilaine. Harlan was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, rural Frost, MN and a 1935 graduate of Bricelyn High School, Bricelyn, MN.
At the time of his death Harlan was a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corps, assigned to the 66th Squadron, 44th Bomb Group as a B-24 pilot. His plane went down in the North Sea returning from a bombing raid to Bremen, Germany. The plane ditched 20 minutes from the English coast and none of the crew survived. Harlan's and four other crew members bodies were not recovered and their names are listed on the Wall of the Missing, American War Memorial, Margraten, Netherlands. His military awards are the Air Medal and Purple Heart.
Harlan was not married.

None of the crew survived the crash. The bodies of Harlan and four other crew members were not recovered (MIA) and their names are listed on the Wall of the Missing, American War Memorial, Margraten, Netherlands. The bodies of the other crew members washed ashore on the Dutch coast and were buried there.
