BETTY GUYER, 93

Elizabeth Porter Guyer, 93, passed away on Friday, March 11, 2016 at her home Silver Springs in Green Valley, Arizona. She was born on April 9, 1922 in Valley, Washington to Alton Millett Porter and Ova (Phinisey) Porter.

Betty grew up in Michigan and Connecticut. She graduated from high school in Willimantic, Connecticut in 1939 and with a degree in Home Economics from the University of Connecticut in 1943.

Betty married Richard (Dick) Bennett Guyer on July 10, 1943. They were happily married until Dick's death in Hinsdale, Illinois on April 18, 1968. She then finished her Master's Degree at George Williams College and later went to work as an extension advisor in Bureau County, Illinois. After her retirement, she moved from Bishop Hill, Illinois to Green Valley, Arizona, where she spent her last years.

Betty was a member of Valley Presbyterian Church in Green Valley. She enjoyed painting, playing cards and spending time with her friends and family.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents Alton and Ova, her stepmother Dorothy (Rauch) Porter, her brother Richard Phinisey Porter, and her husband, Richard Bennett Guyer. She is survived by her daughters Beth Guyer of Louisville, Colorado, Catherine Phillips of Louisville Colorado, and Susan Kaufmann-Guyer of Zurich, Switzerland; her grandchildren Margot Koval, Charles Koval, Bennett Tanton, Carla Kaufmann and Philip Kaufmann and her great-grandchildren Taylor, Tabitha, Addison, Georgia Mae, and Nayeli.

Her remains will be interred at Valley Presbyterian Church in Green Valley. There will be a private memorial celebration for her family.
