OBITUARY - Plain Dealer, Wabash (IN) - October 3, 2006

WABASH--Bonita Marie Gackenheimer, 88, died September 30, 2006 at 1:17 p.m. at her Bickford Cottage residence in Wabash.

She was born January 26, 1918 near Somerset to Chester and Blanche (Hester) Crow.

She married Paul D. Gackenheimer in Wabash on Aug. 22, 1937; he died Nov. 20, 2001. She was a 1935 graduate of Fairmount High School.

She worked with her husband in the family business, Gackenheimer Pharmacies from 1938-1991. She was the company's business manager. She was a member of Wabash St. Matthew's United Church of Christ, where she was the former School Superintendent and teacher, the children's choir director, Women's Guild member, sang in the church choir, and often played the organ for church services. She was a past president and board member of the Altrusa Club, president of the Wabash Woman's Clubhouse, and a member of the Hesperian Literary Club. She was also a member of the Indianapolis Symphony Society and the Wabash Chamber of Commerce. She received the International Award from the Altrusa Club in 1975. Bonnie loved to travel. She visited South America, Mexico, Europe, and the Holy Lands.

She is survived by Son, John (Ana) Gackenheimer, Wabash; five grandchildren, Jeff (Susan) Gackenheimer, Danville; Mark (Cindy) Gackenheimer,Hillbert, Wis.; Christina (Kevin) Sprecher, Cincinnati; Jenifer (Barton) Peters, Los Angeles; Julie (Chris) Porter, Wabash; eight great Grandchildren; Daughter-in-Law, Shirley Gackenheimer, Rochester; two sisters, Jule A. Durnbaugh, Winona Lake; and Barbara Jean (Raymond) Whitinger of Thorntown.

She was preceded in death by one son David Gackenheimer who died April 11, 2004; Daughter-in-Law, Joyce (Vogel) Gackenheimer who died January 2006 and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held at St. Matthews United Church of Christ, 1717 N Wabash Street, Wabash, on , October 4, 2006 at 10:30am. Entombment will be at Falls Cemetery, Wabash, IN. Arrangements are entrusted to Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Ave. Wabash. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Ave. Wabash, and one hour prior to services at the church. Preferred memorials are St. Matthews United Church of Christ or Robert M. LaSalle Cancer Treatment Center of Wabash County Hospital.
