Apparently, someone had a headstone installed at a later time and it reads, "Harden" on top of the headstone and "Barrows 1849-1897" on the front. There is also a footstone that is inscribed "J. H. B."
The following is from the newspaper The Burrton Graphic, dated Friday, February 12, 1897;
"Death of John Harden Barrows. J. H. Barrows was born in Madison County, Illinois, February 16, 1849 and died at his home nine miles southeast of Burrton, February 8, 1897, aged 47 years, 11 months, and 22 days. Mr. Barrows was one of the early settlers of this county, having lived on his farm since 1881. He was married to Miss Elenor Gorvin, March 10, 1880. They have one child, Alice, who with Mrs. Barrows, survive him. The neighbors looked upon Harden Barrows as a peaceful, honest and obliging citizen. He is greatly lamented. His sickness was of about 2 weeks duration, being taken with la grippe, which added to his old trouble, the asthma, caused his death.
The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. C. H. Woodward at the Centennial Methodist church and his body laid to rest in the Star cemetery. A large company of sympathizing friends being present."
Also from the same newspaper, dated Feb. 12, 1897;
"A number of Burrton people attended the funeral service of Harden Barrows at Centennial Church, Tuesday."
Note that the inscription on his parent's headstone states that Harden died on February 9th, while his obituary states that he died on February the 8th.
Note that a J. H. Barrows, age 28, is shown as marrying Mrs. N. L. Allisin, age 27, on Nov. 11, 1877. Both were residents of Harvey Co., Kansas. (Harvey County, Kansas Marriages 1872-1895).
