Mr. R. Edsel Shurling, age 73, of Blairsville, formerly Tennille, died Friday, March 18, 2016. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 20th, at 2:00 p.m. at the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Masonic Rites. Reverend Danny Thomas will officiate.
Mr. Shurling was a native of Washington County and the son of the late Rubin R. Shurling and the late Dola Amerson Shurling Wilcox. Edsel was retired from Rheem Manufacturing as a machinist. He was a member of the Tennille Baptist Church. Mr. Shurling was a member of the Tennille Lodge #256 F&AM and also the Allegheny Lodge #114 F&AM, as well as a member of the Al Shaih Shrine.
He was a US Navy Veteran serving during the Viet Nam Conflict.
He is predeceased by his wife Jean Tommie Shurling and his son Michael Scott Shurling.
Survivors include: his wife, Elaine S. Turner Shurling of Blairsville; step children, Jason Turner of Pembroke, and Stuart Turner and his wife Dawn of Tennille; and step grandchildren, Taylor Turner, Josh Turner, Tyler Turner and Kristen Turner.
The family will be at the residence of Stuart and Dawn Turner on HWY 68 South, in Tennille, and they will receive friends on Saturday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the May and Smith Funeral Home.
